TOURNAMENT RULES


1. This tournament is sanctioned by the OMHA therefore OMHA, CHA and tournament rules apply.  Neck AND mouth guards are mandatory for all participating OMHA teams. Teams from outside the OMHA (i.e. Alliance, GTHL) are required to wear mouth guards only if mandated by their governing body

2. This is a Rostered Select tournament therefore NO body contact is allowed. 

3. A major penalty for fighting will result in expulsion from the tournament.  All other minor/major penalties shall be in accordance with OMHA rules. 

4. The Head Coach and/or Team Manager are required to register with CWMHA representatives at the Tournament Office, 1 (one) hour prior to their first game.  Official rosters (as approved by their governing body - OMHA, Alliance, GTHL, etc.) and travel permits must be submitted 10 days prior to the start of the tournament. 

5. Any disputes will be ruled upon by the Tournament Committee and their decision will be final; NO protests will be allowed. 

6. All teams must be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to the scheduled game time. 

7. The Tournament Committee will designate the HOME team who must occupy the HOME bench and wear LIGHT coloured jerseys.  HOME teams will be listed as first in the schedule.  The VISITING team will wear DARK coloured jerseys; in the event of conflicting jerseys, the HOME team will change. 

8. Every team is guaranteed 3 games. 

9. Point system for Preliminary Play will be 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.  There is NO overtime in Preliminary Play. 

10. A 3-minute warm-up will commence on the clock when the zamboni leaves the ice.  Please make sure your team is ready. 

11. Teams will line up and shake hands prior to the beginning of the game.
 
12. All preliminary games will be 10-10-10 minute stop-time periods.
  
13. There will be 4 divisions of teams: Novice, Atom, Peewee and Bantam.
 
14. In a Division of 7 teams, there will be 2 Pools; one of 3 teams and one of 4 teams.  Pool B teams (with 3 teams), will play each other once.  The team with the most points will receive the top rank and will move to the Semi-Finals as Pool B’s 1st place team. In Pool B, the teams ranked 2nd & 3rd will play in a Quarter-Final game, with the winning team advancing to the second Semi-final as Pool B’s 2nd place team.  Pool A teams (4 teams) will play against the other 3 teams in their group.  The top 2 teams from Pool A, will advance to the semi-finals (A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2).  Winners of the semi-final games will advance to the finals.  All semis & finals will take place on Sunday. 

15. In a Division with 12 teams, there will be 4 pools of 3 teams. Teams in each pool will pay a round robin (ex. Pool A - team 1 vs team 2, team 1 vs team 3 and team 2 vs team 3) with the top 2 teams moving onto the Championship rounds and the 3rd place team in each pool will advance to the Consolation rounds.
 
16. In a Division with 6 teams, there will be 2 pools of 3 teams. Each pool will play a round robin with the 1st place team advancing directly to the semi-finals. The 2nd and 3rd place teams will move to a quarter-final game with the winning team advancing to the semi-finals.

17. MERCY RULE – If a team is leading by 5 goals at any time after 2 periods of play, the remaining time shall be straight running time.  Should the lead be reduced to less than 5 goals after the mercy rules has been called, the clock will remain in straight time.
 
18. TIES IN PRELIMINARY STANDINGS WILL BE BROKEN AS FOLLOWS: A) Winner of game between tied teams (Head to Head). There is no Head to Head tie-breaker if more than 2 teams are tied. B) Most wins, C) Fewest goals against, D) Most goals for, E) Fewest penalty minutes, F) Coin toss. 

19. QUARTER-FINAL GAMES – will be 10-10-10 minutes of stop-time periods.  If the game is tied after regulation, the teams will proceed to shootout.  It will consist of 3 players from each team, with shooters from each team shooting simultaneously.  If still tied after 3 shooters, then sudden-death shoot-out will take place, with 1 shooter from each team shooting simultaneously.  The first team not to match the other team’s goal, loses.  The 3 shooters need to be marked down on the game sheet before semi-finals begin. ALL players must have taken a turn at shooting before a player may shoot again. 
20. SEMI-FINAL GAMES – will be 10-10-10 minutes of stop-time periods.  If the game is tied after regulation, the teams will proceed to shootout.  It will consist of 3 players from each team, with shooters from each team shooting simultaneously.  If still tied after 3 shooters, then sudden-death shoot-out will take place, with 1 shooter from each team shooting simultaneously.  The first team not to match the other team’s goal, loses.  The 3 shooters need to be marked down on the game sheet before semi-finals begin. ALL players must have taken a turn at shooting before a player may shoot again.
 
21. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME –will be 10-10-12 minutes of stop-time periods.  If the game is tied after regulation, there will be ONE 5-minute stop-time overtime period.  If the game is still tied after overtime, the teams will proceed to shootout.  It will consist of 3 players from each team, with shooters from each team shooting simultaneously.  The first team not to match the other team’s goal, loses.  If still tied after 3 shooters, then sudden-death shoot-out will take place, with 1 shooter from each team shooting simultaneously. The 3 shooters need to be marked down on the game sheet before final game begins. ALL players must have taken a turn at shooting before a player may shoot again.
 
22. A player must have played in at least one preliminary round game to be eligible for semi-final/final play.
    
23. There will be ONE 30-second time-out per team in the SEMI-FINAL & CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

24. After the championship game, all players are asked to line-up on their respected blue lines for the trophy/banner presentations.
 
25. Teams must respect arena rules and leave dressing rooms in a tidy fashion. Teams or players disrespecting the facilities, arena staff and tournament staff or leaving the dressing rooms in a mess, can be suspended from the tournament. 

26. Team officials are responsible for the conduct of their players both on/off the ice.  Good sportsmanship from all teams will be adhered to during the entirety of the tournament.
