Peewee A Win the Sudbury Regional Silver Stick!!
The Centre Wellington Fusion Peewee A team are the proud champions of the Sudbury Regional Silver Stick. The team went undefeated through the first two days of tournament play, capturing the first place position in their Division and qualifying them for semi-final play. A strong 5-2 win against the Copper Cliff Redmen, in the semi-finals, secured Fusion’s spot in the final championship game. Facing off against the Nickel City Sharks, Fusion battled to the win in dramatic style. Starting off down 1 goal in the first period, Fusion had to quickly battle back to tie the game. Nickel City fought back scoring two more goals. With only 5 minutes left in the 3rd period, Fusion was trailing by 2. The boys dug deep and accomplished what seemed impossible, scoring two more goals to tie up the game with only 1.5 seconds on the clock. During the first full period of overtime play Fusion took a penalty, leaving them 1 man down, but managed to shut Nickel City out. The game remained tied, forcing a second round of sudden death overtime play. Back to full strength, and with only 16 seconds left on the clock in the 5th period of play, Fusion scored to win the game! This victory is credited to the incredible determination displayed by these young players. The team now advances to the International Silver Stick in Port Huron Michigan.
